The Mistress

i don't how to say this but this movie is simply priceless. it's more than what i expect it. the movie is simply fantastic, i love it.

this is from here.

this is from here.

its brave, its bold, its awesome. bea's acting is superb. you can feel her passion. feel her words every time she delivers her words. john lloyd's, on the other hand, acting is simply breathtaking - literally. an acting stint that he should be proud of. every scenes with bea is nerve cracking and heart pounding.

i simply love the scene when the john lloyd and bea hugged each other while crying. i can feel the intense power. whew! so far, this movie ranks the best for me - 9.75.

i hate you. i hate you because i can't hate you.
it's not what you can or cannot do. it's what you should do.
di lahat ng gusto mo, makukuha mo.
i have so many reasons to hate you. pero di ko magawa dahil mahal kita.

one of the best young actors in PH and a rising singer in one movie. well, what should i say. boring? i just thought of that word because it's how i feel. angeline quinto's action is below what i am expecting. something that a normal girl from GMA network can do - sorry for dragging them into this. i just thought that she better continue singing and probably attend some acting workshops more if she really wants to act. for me, she dragged coco martin down. i don't like his acting here.

the story is totally predictable! oh men! people are saying that movie industry here in the PH is down - reason is because producer's are spending their time and money for such a crap. please!

this is from rodmagaru.com

a grade of 4.0 is good for them.

Project Enthalpy

Enthalpy is a measure of the total energy of a thermodynamic system. It includes the internal energy, which is the energy required to create a system, and the amount of energy required to make room for it by displacing its environment and establishing its volume and pressure.

i am a chemical engineer by heart and a programmer by profession. as a chemical engineer, i know that there are different types of energy that surround each and everyone of us. well, even high school or elementary students know that. but to tell people what "enthalpy" is, it's really hard to do.

so, i wanted to explain it in a way where my peers will understand. so basically, enthalpy is internal energy plus work. think of "internal energy" as doing your everyday tasks - create detailed design, create test plans, create code, solve tickets, monitor servers, create reports and others. you need to do these to survive. you need to be effective to deliver. you need to be efficient to add value. you need to excel to have a good rating. however, sometimes excelling is not enough to have a good one. when politics comes in, every effort that made will be useless.

now, think of "work" as your effort to make another room. another room to showcase your talent. something you don't usually do. its a work to establish another name. this room is usually empty. no one knows how your circle of influence is. it is dependent on volume and pressure. so work is like doing some extra-curricular activities. other people see you, but they do not know the volume of your work in there. they do not know the pressure that you have to make some activities work. since this is empirical by nature, this is where politics comes in.

so, enthalpy is internal energy plus work. internal energy plus politics. very vague. very subjective. no more words to say. no one to blame.

i am moving on. just to move forward and look for some new space to expand.

is He calling me to become a better person?

it was early in the morning. someone texted me. i thought it was my girlfriend. time says it 7.17 AM. too early for 8 am but too late for 6 am. so its not her. so, who is this person who dared to disturb my sleep?

its my uncle. my dad's brother. here's his message:
wow! it's a tear-jerking message asking someone for help. hhaayy. my uncle efren gave him a lot of chances - he gave him a jeepney, a place to stay, money, etc. but everything went to nothing. and he is back to ground zero. as in zero. going back to his mmk-like message, i was caught in the middle of truth versus being good, of being honest versus being tact, of moving on and acceptance versus going back to zero and bitterness.

i see my father in him. they are just half brothers but he looks like my dad. thin, frailty body. big round eyes with thick eyebrows. i hate him because i could not hate him - parang The Mistress lang. LOL! trapped in the middle of nowhere, i found myself numb. trying myself not to talk and reply back. but here's what i should have replied back:
full of bitterness right? truth is i don't like to help him. but i think this is what i should do. so, is He calling me to become a better person? i think yes. calling me to become a better person. prayer is all i need. again, relieving to my thoughts that - There are times when you have to say NO in the things that you have been dreaming to say YES.

this is from here.

Chris Cayzer

for those people who doesn't know him, he's chris cayzer. ahehehe.

he auditioned in the latest season of x factor australia. unfortunately, he did not make it to top 12. anyhow, that's not the reason why i am writing this blog entry. reason, what he said during the audition. and here's part of his interview...

"The Philippines was actually my training ground. I did a lot of crazy stuff over there. I started acting, I released two albums. I got an award for Favorite New Male Artist. It’s great. People actually buy your music. It’s a good feeling. But I just really wanted to come back to succeed in Australia."

my reaction? mixed actually. first, i salute his honesty. unlike other filipinos abroad who keeps on saying, "i am proud to be filipino" just to get some votes. you know who you are. this guy - chris - is (should i say) not so proud to be filipino and honestly his talent is not so good as well. i am just telling the truth - i have nothing against him.

on the other hand, i feel bad. i don't know. i just feel that way. seems like we're just left hanging somewhere, a "training ground" from no where, right?

picture is from the url above.

anyways, he still should be proud of himself. he made it that far. good luck on your next endeavor chris.

what a pleasant surprise!

august 27 is the day when something unsurmountable surprise happened.

it was justice secretary leila de lima's birthday when she received a text from someone whom she didn't expect - and i must admit it, i did not expect it as well. senator panfilo lacson greeted the lady secretary on her birthday. wow! see >> ping offers peace to leila, greets her happy birthday on the phone.

from the same news story above.

who says that peace and reconciliation have no room in this government? well, a simple text really made a difference. after everything happened between these two public officials, oh men, i should say that panfilo lacson is the man! a very gentleman when he humbled himself to leila. it may took a lot of courage to do it but for me - it only shows that you have breeding. i salute you senator! keep up the good deeds!

caramelized chicken with no oil

it's been a while when i started changing the way i eat. ehem, ehem. and proud to loose a couple of pounds. so far, i am loyal to it. no beef/pork for almost two months now. however, my taste buds would like to taste something new, something awesome.

i know that looking/thinking of  a good recipe is a challenge. playing with just salt, mascovado sugar and organic vinegar will not go for long. so, here's what i did.

mixed water and mascovado sugar until it thickens. add vinegar until it suits your taste buds. note that you can also use this a dip for other food. after this, add four cloves of garlic and pinch of salt. set this aside. cut your chicken breast into thin slices. marinate your chicken in the sugar/vinegar mixture and stand overnight.

in a non-stick pan (it is important to use a non-stick pan), add water instead of oil. add the marinated chicken and let it stand on low fire. put some mixture in the pan to add taste. afterwards, turn the chicken and add some more water and sugar/vinegar mixture.

this is what it will look like >>

wow...sarap!

Lorenzo on Lost Opportunity

Lorenzo's Time never fails to impress me. The story is becoming more and more interesting. I am loving it so much.

Last Thu, I have no work. Sorry, the phrase should have been - CHOSE NOT TO WORK. I still have my comp times so taking a day leave is not a problem. The wound is still fresh. Hahaha! And while they are working, I am watching Lorenzo's Time. In the scene, Lorenzo was talking to his pal (and lost brother) Jonas about lost opportunities. Here's their conversation:

J: Talaga?

L: Oo, promise.

J: Sige.

L: Ano, bati na tayo?

(sabay appear nila Jonas at Lorenzo)

L: Tsaka Brad, wag kang matakot mawalan ng pagkakataon. Magaling ka naman eh. Masipag pa. So, sigurado ako marami pang magagandang oppotunities ang darating sa iyo.

J: Salamat Brad.

this is from here.

While hearing the conversation between the two, i almost forget myself. I was so touched with their conversation. It struck me so much and found myself in Jonas' foot. My girl and I talked about it and she was so happy how that program influenced me so much. Thank you Lorenzo. Go Lorenzo's Time!

awesome pinoys!

if we are talking about awesome pinoys for 2012, i can say that these two should make it to the roster great people. two pinoys made to the list of 2012 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World. they are Benigno "Bam" Aquino, IV and Edsel Maurice Salvana.

Bam Aquino. aquino again? please don't be negative. i think he deserves it. i've seen his effort to make a name out of himself and his sincerity makes me believe that he's an awesome guy. see >>

Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ A. Aquino IV belongs to a new generation of Filipino leaders who have sought out solutions to social problems in new and innovative ways. Bam and his team have helped thousands of underprivileged women in various parts of the Philippines work their way out of poverty through the mutli-awarded social enterprise, The Hapinoy Program. The Hapinoy Program helps small mom-and-pop stores in the Philippine countryside develop into more sustainable businesses through business aggregation, community-organizing and personal development programs.
In 2011, The Hapinoy Program won the UN’s Project Inspire Award, besting over 400 social enterprises from all over the world. With business partner, Mark Ruiz, Bam was named as the Asian Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the World Economic Forum’s Schwab Foundation for Social Enterprises also in the same year.
Bam’s work in alleviating poverty through development work and social enterprise has won accolades here and abroad. As early as 2006, he was recognized as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. In that same year, he was chosen to be part of Asia Society’s pioneer batch of Asia 21 Young Leaders. In 2010, Bam was was chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) for 2010 in the category Social Enterprise and Community Development.
Previous to his work in the Hapinoy Program, he became the youngest person to head a government agency in the Philippines when he was appointed as the Chairman of the National Youth Commission (NYC) when he was 26 years old.
Edsel Salvana. this doctor has been a part of balik scientist program of DOST last 2008. an internist by profession in cleveland, ohio, he is also an expert in infectious diseases and tropical medicine. being part of the program alone, made me realize that he deserves the spot. see >>

Dr. Edsel Maurice Salvana turned his knowledge and career in the medical field into a way to help those suffering from HIV/AIDS. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, he completed his residency and obtained specialized diplomas in international infectious and tropical diseases in the United States. He studied the HIV/AIDS epidemic that occurred in both Africa and the United States during the 1980s and deems it a human catastrophe that must not be repeated.
Upon Dr. Salvana’s return to the Philippines, he discovered an increase of HIV/AIDS cases in his home country. He immediately took action and started a vigorous awareness and research campaign long before the Philippine government officially recognized the epidemic.
His early detection of the disease spurred government agencies to make HIV/AIDS policy a priority and initiated positive changes regarding testing and treatment. Dr. Salvana has taken his campaign global by delivering educational, action-oriented speeches about the epidemic to the United Nations and the United States Peace Corps. Locally, he treats HIV/AIDS patients at the Philippine General Hospital and also established the first Philippine HIV/AIDS fellowship program to increase care for the disease. Dr. Salvana’s extensive medical background and vibrant passion to protect others make him a strong advocate for HIV/AIDS in his community and around the world.
to both of these awesome pinoys! congratulations!

korina vs. binay

just recently, i wrote something about kabayan versus pnoy. now, it's binay versus korina. well, what's new?

last national election, it was known to everyone that race between korina's hubby - dilg secretary mar roxas - and former makati mayor and now vice president jejomar binay is as tight as battle for the last winning senatorial slot of senator koko pimentel and former senator migz zubiri. i am a self confessed pro-roxas - so you know my stand on this. =) .

korina - in her morning radio show - allegedly called binay as "dark and little monster".

"Hindi ho ba kaya, noong wala pang DILG secretary ay maraming mga maiitim at maliliit na mga maligno ang siya pong naka-ano dyan, umaabang-abang para makuha po ang pwestong yan. Pero mabuti na lamang po, ay binasbasan po ng kaliwanagan ng pag-iisip ang ating pinuno na si P-Noy (Aquino) at si Secretary Robredo ang kanyang napili para dyan po manungkulan."

well, binay is really small but i don't think he's a monster. he's also a good guy. probably, korina is just sour graping. hehe. but if you are going to look into her words, she can mean a lot of other things with her words. i mean, i've heard a lot of people calling some other public officials some un-appropriate names. come on! my stand is clear. korina is just doing her job and knows her job well.

my stand is clear. a lot of other broadcast journalist can talk ill against other people. probably not a direct assault but a stone from high above your head type of words. and if you are overly sensitive, you'll die early. i think this was just sensationalized because they know that korina as one of those people who felt bad when binay held the post.

what is para-di-chlorobenzene?

the rain started pouring when i'm on my way home after a visit to my girl's house. too bad because i intend to walk and feel the good weather.

i pulled my wallet and found out that i have 20 pesos - too big for a tryke ride. so, i went back to mercury drug and started to roam around - look for something cheap to buy to have a change. my feet brought me to para-di-chlorobenzene. so what's para-di-chlorobenze? i am a chemical engineer and knows this organic substance very well.

para-di-cholorobenzene is one of the three forms of di-chlorobenze - other two are meta-di-chlorobenzene and ortho-di-chlorobenzene. in terms of molecular weight, they are all the same. but in terms of stability, halides (common organic term for halogens like chlorine and bromine) are electron withdrawing group (EWG) but tend to directs the second halide into an ortho or para position.

picture of para-di-chlorobenzene from here.

so what am i talking about? everything on earth tends to look for a place or state which has the lowest energy level. so as these reactions. people thought that these elements/chemicals are just irritants. but most often than not, they make our lives more comfortable. we just tend to overuse them. you can see more details in aromatic reactivity and electrophilic aromatic substitution.

anyways, what's this para-di-chlorobenzene? if you buy albatross, try to read the label. they are now used to replace the traditional naphthalene.

RH Bill: my stand, my thoughts v2

here's the second part of my point on RH Bill.

d. controlling the population is controlling the economy. i am not here to discuss the implications of controlling the population but my stand here is simple - controlling the population will not solve the issue on poverty. in fact, of all arguments made by pro-RH peeps, this is where (i think) i appreciate much. population is really growing and so as the poverty level. but, what we need is political will from our beloved politicians. we need someone who can turn the tides. please allow me to quote on this from former manila mayor lito atienza -
"Population control and the size of the family are not the problems. Good governance is the challenge. Spending so much time and effort to cause a reduction, and to intrude in the life of families will merely destroy the values - primary of which is the valuing of life - which will merly serve as a band-aid solution.".
lito atienza may not be the best person to discuss about good governance but i think he pretty hit my mind. also, i quote again -
"Population control damages people's thinking by permanently accepting the distorted notion that pregnancy is a problem to be avoided. Materialism has overtaken values in today's world. The young are taught that they can engage in sex as long as they do not get pregnant. This is exactly the unwritten message, the signal if you will, of the RH bill you are supporting."
i love kuya kim but not his father. lol. but i think his statement gave me a pretty good impression that he has his values in tight. it is true that materialism has overtaken values in today's world. for me, it's like you don't want to bring another baby a chance to live simply because you wanted to buy your growing kid - iPad, iPod, hi tech television, etc. these modern day technology is just to remind everyone that our world is a lot better now than 50 years ago and not to engage ourselves to such. i can give a lot of examples but it won't fit here. =) . you can read the open letter of former mayor lito atienza here

e. talking about sex. just like any other filipino families, i grew up basically in a family where talking about sex is a big "NO-NO". actually, it is my environment who taught me about it. it's the older people - not my parents. this practically lead to a great disaster - misconception about sex. my environment showed me that sex is synonymous to acceptance. you need to have sex so you are in. this misconception made a monster inside me - until now, i am still in war against this monster.

a few weeks ago, a friend is asking if having pre-marital sex is unacceptable and immoral? and who's fault is it if someone got involved into it? it's good that the question wasn't directed to me. =) . reality sucks but it should unfold naturally. having pre-marital sex is immoral and unacceptable to catholic church because it should be done within the boundary of marriage. one man loving a woman. who's fault is it if someone was put in that situation? no ones fault is it. it is still a choice if you wanted to have sex. you should not be condemned. but one should think that virginity is the best gift that you could ever give to the person you love. will i hate my girl if she's no longer a virgin? no. virginity is the best gift but there are a lot of other things that you could offer. are you immoral if you had sex with someone with your boyfriend/girlfriend even if you love each other so much? yes, you are. but important thing here is, Jesus is willing to forgive you from all of your sin because He loves you so much.

f. responsible parenthood is the answer. last state of the nation address, pnoy mentioned something about responsible parenthood. yes i agree with it. but people say that this pnoy's way of being a responsible parent is educating people that they have access to family planning - throught IUD, condoms and etc.

one thing that pnoy and i had in common is that we do not have family of our own. we're both single men oozing with ideas to make this country a better place to live. but we have different perspective of what responsible parenthood is. and it will be summarized in this post >>

picture is from here

every year, we have convivence in neo-catechumenal way. and last year, we talked about sex, chastity and parent's responsibility over it. allow me to quote a part of the manuscript >>
...i already presented a document of the pontifical council for the family on sexual education. it is said in the introduction to this book as help to the parents that...
among the several difficulties that the parents have today is certainly that of offering the children an adequate preparations to the adult life, in particular for what concerns the education to the true significance of sexuality.
in the past, the family would not be able to provide an explicit sexual education, because the general culture was helping and was objectively helpful in protecting to keep chastity, etc.
the school, then, often replacing the family, gives more information then formation. sometimes it is given a deformation rather than formation.
it is very urgent that the parents have the right-duty of transmitting them a healthy sexual education.
thus, responsible parenthood is the key to population growth. but, do parents really know that they have these responsibilities? i don't think so. how many of us have parents who taught us about sex? i can only count a few people - not even 10.

six points. i hope that i can convince you that RH Bill will really kill people. let's fight against RH Bill.

eucharist will be eucharist

eucharist will be eucharist. every night is a night to remember. every celebration is a conversation to cherish. for the past two saturdays celebrating the eucharist, i should say that the priests rock! father glen and father migz were really great in delivering their sermons/homilies.

father glen. august 25 eucharist is more than like a eucharist. it's a conversation with God which tells us what love and marriage is all about. it's so funny because a lot of people shared about the readings. one particular thing that struck me is the second reading from ephesians 5: 21 - 32. you can read it here - its in tagalog because i am a tagalog. =) .

in the reading, it talks about submission - not just the wives/women to their husbands/men but vice versa. father glen talks about this submission by giving an example about a "may-december" love affair - where a woman is a lot older than a man - of course it can be the other way around. father glen said and i quote

real submission is looking into the gifts and inner beauty of one another.

and it's true right? this is why, it is important to look for someone that will not just make you feel comfortable dealing with (e.g. physical features) but also look for the gift of one another. something that will make you say, "she changed me for the better.". and i think i found the one.

thank you father glen for this.

father migz. september 1 eucharist is a completely different thing. i see a God who reminded me that life must go on. i must say that i'm not doing good these past few days because of assessments and probably promotion. and quite devastated about it. of course, i can't talk things in detail but God reminded me of something.

it was almost the end of his homily. father migz stopped and talked about the following God's will.

following God's will is difficult to comprehend. but if you'll just obey His spirit, that is when you'll become a gift.
probably, it's really not yet my time. not time to have a rating that i want. probably, i'll do something different this year. something i never did before. just like the lesson in "who moved my cheese?" by spencer johnson, i just have to look for another way to get what i want. well, i guess this is enough. God talked to me last night  in the presence of father migz and i know i feel better.

thank you father migz for this.

one of our eucharistic celebrations.

i think adam sandler is a funny guy. he portrays his roles well, in most of his movies. and i must be honest - NOT IN THIS MOVIE. i think this movie lacks something vital - some personal moments. the story is a little cracky with a lot of empty spaces in between. something that viewers like me will say  - that's it?. it's really not funny at all. i almost fell asleep while watching it. oh come on!

and the robert de niro thing isn't also good. it made the movie worse. acting wise, it's plain and lacks the sensitivity. i don't know.

i'll give this movie a 3.5.
